Wildlife monitoring on the back of your hand
Over half of the land in the United States is privately owned, yet private landowners often lack the resources or opportunities to document the biodiversity on their properties and assess the impacts of their management practices. Conservation Cam is a program designed by the Wildlife Ecology and Land Management Lab and the Global Ecology Research Group to empower Florida’s landowners by providing free camera trapping equipment and access to identification platforms like iNaturalist. Beyond empowering landowners, our goal is to raise awareness about the critical role of private lands and the importance of land management for sustaining biodiversity
What we do
Whether you want to learn which wildlife live your property or track how specific management practices (such as prescribed fire) affect local species, we provide participants with a variety of tools to monitor wildlife based on their needs. We supply cameras for those who don’t have them, offer training on camera trap setup and deployment, and provide support for picture identification. Additionally, we have an iNaturalist project where participants can share their observations and explore what has already been recorded. The platform also serves as a valuable tool for identifying species and gaining insights into their biology.
